During my recent visit to speak with Associated British Ports, I had the opportunity to discuss the local benefits of the freeport development to local business and economy. It was exciting to talk about how offshore wind turbines are being produced in Wales and on the site, thanks to the proximity to Tata Steelworks.
We also discussed the extensive land available at the port side, which offers tremendous scope for new associated developments which presents a fantastic opportunity for new investments and to create new local jobs across South Wales
The Celtic Freeport is set to be based around the ports of Port Talbot and Milford Haven. The plans focus on low carbon technologies, such as floating offshore wind (FLOW), hydrogen, carbon capture, utilization, and storage, and biofuels, which will support the accelerated reduction of carbon emissions.
I am excited about the potential that this development holds for the region and the country at large. The freeport will not only create new jobs but also pave the way for innovative and sustainable technologies that will help combat climate change.
I am thrilled to see Wales taking a leadership role in the transition to a low-carbon future, while encouraging innovative economic development.
