Julie James MS wears it pink in support of Breast Cancer Now campaign
Julie James, MS for Swansea West added a splash of pink to her usual attire to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage constituents to support Breast Cancer Now’s wear it pink, which will take place on Friday 18 October to raise vital funds for world-class breast cancer research and life-changing support.
Julie James was joined by other members of the Senedd in Cardiff, to raise awareness of breast cancer, and to learn more about the breast cancer in Wales. Julie James is calling for her constituents in Swansea West to join her, as well as thousands of others across the UK to sign up and take part in wear it pink which takes place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Anyone can take part in wear it pink, whether at school, work or at home. All you need to do is wear something pink, or hold a pink themed event, and donate to Breast Cancer Now to help the charity achieve its vision that by 2050 everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives and is supported to live well.
Julie James MS, who hosted the event, said:
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with one woman diagnosed every 10 minutes and a man diagnosed each day. As a breast cancer survivor myself I’m very passionate about encouraging everyone in Wales to take part in wear it pink on Friday 18 October.
“By wearing pink, we are united against breast cancer. This campaign will help fund Breast Cancer Now’s world-class research and life-changing support services – ensuring everyone diagnosed with breast cancer receives the best possible treatment and care.
“I am proud to raise awareness of the impact of the disease locally, and to support and advocate for Breast Cancer Now’s research. Breast cancer affects so many people in Wales, so I hope that everybody will get involved this October and support this very important cause.”
Claire Rowney, chief executive at Breast Cancer Now, said:
“We are so excited to see wear it pink return to the Senedd, and incredibly grateful for the support of Julie James and her fellow MSs in raising awareness of breast cancer and the vital work that wear it pink helps to fund.
“We hope that by wearing pink, they’ll encourage their constituents to also wear it pink in their homes, schools or workplaces on Friday 18 October and help us to increase knowledge of breast cancer and continue to deliver life-changing research and support.
“Wear it pink is a fantastic opportunity for communities across the UK to come together, have fun and show their support for this very important cause. By simply wearing something pink and donating what you can, you’ll help raise much-needed funds and awareness. Together we can take another vital stride towards reaching our goal that, by 2050, everyone who is diagnosed breast cancer will live, and be supported to live well.”

Mae Julie James AS yn gwisgo pinc i gefnogi ymgyrch Breast Cancer Now
Mae Julie James AS wedi gwisgo i fynu mewn pinc yn y Senedd er mwyn cefnogi wear it pink, un o ddigwyddiadau codi arian mwyaf a disgleiriaf y DU
Ychwanegodd Julie James AS sblash o binc at ei dillad arferol i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ganser y fron ac i annog etholwyr i gefnogi wear it pink dros Breast Cancer Now, ar ddydd Gwener 18 Hydref i godi arian tuag at ymchwil hanfodol o’r radd flaenaf i ganser y fron ac ar gyfer cefnogaeth sy’n newid bywyd.
Ymunodd aelodau eraill o’r Senedd â Julie James, i godi ymwybyddiaeth, ac i ddysgu mwy am ganser y fron yng Nghymru. Galwodd Julie James ar ei hetholwyr yng Ngorllewin Abertawe i ymuno â hi, yn ogystal â miloedd o bobl eraill ledled y DU, i gofrestru a chymryd rhan mewn wear it pink sy’n digwydd yn ystod Mis Ymwybyddiaeth Canser y Fron.
Gall unrhyw un gymryd rhan a gwisgo pinc, boed yn yr ysgol, yn y gwaith neu gartref. Y cyfan sydd angen i chi ei wneud yw gwisgo rhywbeth pinc, neu gynnal digwyddiad ar thema pinc, a chyfrannu tuag at Breast Cancer Now i helpu’r elusen i gyflawni ei gweledigaeth bod pawb sy’n cael diagnosis o ganser y fron erbyn 2050 yn byw ac yn cael eu cefnogi i fyw’n dda.
Dywedodd Julie James AS, a noddodd y digwyddiad:
“Canser y fron yw’r canser mwyaf cyffredin yn y DU. Mae un fenyw yn cael diagnosis bob 10 munud a dyn yn cael diagnosis bob dydd. Fel un sydd wedi goroesi canser y fron fy hun, dwi’n angerddol iawn am annog pawb yng Nghymru i wisgo pinc ddydd Gwener, 18 Hydref.
“Trwy wisgo pinc, rydyn ni’n unedig yn erbyn canser y fron. Bydd yr ymgyrch hon yn helpu i ariannu ymchwil o safon fyd-eang Breast Cancer Now a gwasanaethau cymorth sy’n newid bywydau. Bydd hyn yn sicrhau bod pawb sy’n cael diagnosis o ganser y fron yn cael y driniaeth a’r gofal gorau posibl.
“Dwi’n falch o godi ymwybyddiaeth am effaith y clefyd yn lleol, ac i gefnogi ac eiriol dros ymchwil Breast Cancer Now. Mae canser y fron yn effeithio ar gymaint o bobl yng Nghymru, felly dwi’n gobeithio y bydd pawb yn cymryd rhan ym mis Hydref ac yn cefnogi’r achos hynod bwysig hwn.”
Dywedodd Claire Rowney, prif weithredwr Breast Cancer Now:
“Rydyn ni mor gyffrous i weld ‘wear it pink’ yn dychwelyd i’r Senedd, ac yn hynod ddiolchgar am gefnogaeth Julie i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ganser y fron a’r gwaith hanfodol mae gwisgo pinc yn helpu i’w ariannu.
“Wrth i Aelodau’r Senedd wisgo pinc, ein gobaith yw y byddan nhw hefyd yn annog eu hetholwyr i wisgo pinc yn eu cartrefi, eu hysgolion neu eu gweithleoedd ddydd Gwener 18 Hydref. Bydd hyn yn ein helpu ni i gynyddu’r ymwybyddiaeth am ganser y fron a pharhau i gyflwyno ymchwil a chymorth sy’n newid bywydau.
“Mae gwisgo pinc yn gyfle gwych i gymunedau ledled y DU ddod ynghyd, mwynhau a dangos eu cefnogaeth i’r achos pwysig iawn yma. Drwy wisgo rhywbeth pinc a rhoi beth bynnag allwch chi, byddwch chi’n helpu i godi arian ac ymwybyddiaeth y mae mawr eu hangen. Gyda’n gilydd, gallwn gymryd cam hollbwysig arall tuag at gyrraedd ein nod, sef hyn: erbyn 2050, bydd pawb sy’n cael diagnosis o ganser y fron yn byw ac yn cael eu cefnogi i fyw’n dda.”
